Gigi Kuhn, Founder and Senior Teacher at gkFRENCH

Gigi is the ultimate global citizen, teacher by training, and lover of the French language and culture. She was born in Saigon, raised in Paris, studied in Montreal, and worked in London.

Gigi is trilingual, with French as her primary language, and holds three passports from Vietnam, France and USA.

She carved out a distinguished career in Chicago as a French teacher for children, teenagers and adults, from beginner to advanced.

In 2015, the Chicago chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) awarded Gigi its "Prix d'Excellence" for outstanding contributions to the teaching of French language and culture in the state of Illinois. Gigi was awarded again in 2024 by the leading association for French teachers, AATF, as distinguished recipient of the national prize “Ludwig Award” for excellence in teaching.

Gigi is very experienced not only in classroom management (22 years of campus experience) but also in online instruction with students all over America.

Ultimate Global Citizen, French is her Primary Language

Gigi is the daughter of a former French teacher in Saigon, Vietnam and grew up speaking French and Vietnamese in a bilingual household where both languages and cultures were equally celebrated.

Early language acquisition has always been in the forefront of her personal and professional path as well, communicating exclusively in French to her child since day one.

Gigi lives in Chicago with her bilingual teenager son, dog Wrigley (yes, we are Cubs fans) and American husband who is also progressing into A2 level French. Her younger brother and parents are based in Nantes, France, along the Atlantic coast where she visits every summer.

Gigi Teaches Based on Students' Needs and Wants.

She develops genuine bonds to understand the “why” behind each learning journey; whether she teaches an adult specialized course or tutors a high schooler for AP French.

Gigi has gained tremendous experience over the past 22 years delivering interactive content online and in-person to engage students in authentic culture and immersive language.
